Sue Scheff: Move Over Teens – Babies is Coming!

BABIES can make almost anyone smile, even in the most difficult times.  Opening during Mother’s Day weekend this  year, Babies is expected to take the theaters by storm.  Babies is a documentary that follows the lives of four newborn babies for the first year of life…in Namibia, Mongolia, Japan, and San Francisco.

With almost 30,000 hits on YouTube already for this amazing trailer, you will see why this is predicted to be a blockbuster from Focus Features.  With today’s economic crisis, people out of work, teens dropping out of school, the high stress of parenting today’s generation of teenagers and tweens – the common bond most have is the fact that a baby can make you smile and simply feel good.

Thomas Balmes’ documentary, Babies, is based on an original idea by Alain Chabat. From Japan and Mongolia to San Francisco and Naimbia, Balmes follows four babies from birth to their first steps.

The children are, respectively, in order of on-screen introduction: Poni, who lives with her family near Opuwo, Namibia; Bayar, who resides with his family in Mongolia, near Bayanchandmani; Mari, who lives with her family in Tokyo, Japan; and Hattie, who resides with her family in the United States, in San Francisco.

When is Mother’s Day?  Sunday, May 9th, 2010 is the exact date, however this documentary will open over that weekend.  Treat the person in your life that is like a mother to you, Babies is a movie almost everyone will walk away with a smile.
